there are other apps wherein rooting is not required. i am often asked - which apps do you use to record the mobile screen? the first app that i used for quite some time is asc i had bought the paid version of this app when i was using a samsung galaxy s3. this cost approx. 6 dollars this app needed to be activated via the computer each time and i could not use this app at all on my new phone samsung note 4 so i don't use this app very much now the 2nd app that i have used is mobizen mobizen is a very user friendly app
and there is no need to root the mobile . but you have to login each time you use the app and you have to do usb debugging as well you have to carry out a no. of steps to use the app another advantage of this app is that you can project the mobile screen on the pc screen however i will tell you about an even simpler app the simplest app for mobile screen recording is az screen recorder in my opinion this is the easiest to use for this app you don't need to root your phone nor do you need to activate it using the pc this app has a free and a paid version
i have used both the free and the paid versions there is not too much difference in the 2 versions. some additional features are available in the paid version let's install the az screen recorder on my samsung s5 and learn how to use it's free version this app works on android lollipop meaning it works on version 5.0 and above when i tried to test it on an old version of android , i could not see the app on the play store if you have an old version of android this app may not work on your mobile phone let's see how to use az screen recorder click and open play store
type az screen recorder in the search bar az screen recorder is displayed in the results. this is a free app and it has a rating of 4.5 click on az screen recorder & install it click on accept and the app is being downloaded it is a 2mb app so it should get downloaded quickly it will however depend on your internet connection. if your internet connection is slow it could take some time click on open az screen recorder has been created on our mobile phone you can see a task bar here
let's first get out of this menu and go to the plain screen the status bar is displayed in the middle you can click on the red button and start recording let me first tell you about the settings for this app click on the settings icon & the settings will open you have a no. of options here. some features are free while others are paid let me tell you about these one by one the first feature is control options & within it is encoder click on encoder
you can choose advanced or default here in advanced you can pause the recording as well. in default you won't be able to pause the recording but it will be more stable let's leave the selection as it is and press on cancel click on magic button magic button is a pro feature. this is used to pause and resume the recording. this is a paid feature let's click on cancel as we are covering the free app click and open stop options the first option is stop by notification. as soon as your video stops you will be given a notification the next option is show red blinking dot
let's click to activate this. whenever we are recording we will see a red blinking dot on the screen. the next option is stop on screen off in this option you can lock the screen to stop the recording . you will need to press the lock button to stop the recording i will not activate this option the last option is enable time limit if we activate this option there is a default time limit given in seconds the default time limit is 600 secs or 10 mins you can increase this no. if you wish
let's increase the time limit to 1200 secs or 20 mins and click ok you can customize this based on your requirements let's go back to the settings menu next let's go to video configuration the resolution is set by default i will leave the resolution as per default settings . click on cancel to return to the previous menu the next option is frame rate a no. of different frame rate options are displayed here what are frames per sec ?
in one second how many frames will come on the screen is called frames per second if you choose lower no. of frames per second the quality will be slightly inferior if you choose higher frames per sec the quality will improve but the file size will become bigger in my view for you tube 30 frames per sec is ideal let's keep it as 30 fps the next option is bit rate let's keep it as auto. click on cancel to return to the settings menu the next option is orientation. click on orientation there are 3 options (a)auto (b)landscape and (c) portrait mode
if we choose landscape or portrait the orientation will be fixed. let's leave it as auto. click on cancel to return to the settings menu next we come to the time lapse option currently this is disabled. we will leave this option as disabled . you can use this option to regulate the speed of the video you can reduce the speed.for instance by choosing 1/3 the speed has become one third. you can increase the speed as well. by clicking x2 the video speed becomes 2x i will leave the option as disabled since i am not recording anything that requires the video speed to be increased or decreased next let's go to audio configuration
you can enable audio recording here when we are making a tutorial or recording a game, audio recording becomes extremely important let's enable audio recording next are text and logo options currently no text or logo is chosen you can click here and enable the show text option to display text once you enable the text option you can see the text in the middle of the screen you can click here to change the text let's change the text to kyakaise.com
you can now see kyakaise.com in red font you can click here to change the font color let's choose a green font color my website url is now displayed in green color you can click on the text to change its position on the screen i will position it at the bottom of the screen you can click here to change the background color as well if you click here the background color chosen right now is transparent you can select a color here as well
let's leave the background color as transparent let's go back to the previous menu you can choose the text size here you can increase or decrease the text size here the keyboard has opened. you can choose the font size here i will leave it as 30 for now click on cancel to go back to the menu you can display your logo as well if you enable show logo it shows the android logo by default
if you want to display you own logo, you can click on image and choose a logo from your phone image gallery let's go back to the menu next is the option for size click on size .currently the size is chosen as 20% let's leave it as such you can move the logo placement by sliding it such that the logo and the url are aligned on the right. we will leave the size as 20%. click on cancel to go back to the menu text and logo settings are now complete the next option in the settings menu is show touches
click on show touches to enable it this is extremely important. when we touch the screen it leaves a small impression. like this or like this if you enable this option you can see the impression from every touch on the screen why is this needed? usually the mobile screen is small and the viewer has to pay a lot of attention if you enable this option , their understanding of the tutorial or the subject you are covering is enhanced
you don't need to do animation or to highlight the screen area wherever you touch the screen , the impression appears the next option is show camera if you want the screen recording to capture the camera view you can enable this option this is a pro feature. you can purchase the paid version to use this feature click on cancel to return to the menu the camera settings won't apply as we don't have access to the pro features the next setting is timer what does timer mean?
we may not be ready or may be doing something when the recording starts. the timer helps us to get mentally prepared that the countdown for the recording has started. the countdown value by default is set as 3 seconds i prefer this to be 5 secs so let's change it to 5 and click ok when you click on the recording button a countdown from 5 to 1 will appear before recording starts next let's go to output directory you can save these videos to internal storage or to an external sd card let's choose external sd card and click ok it is displaying a warning. let's click i have read carefully and ok i understand and proceed
there is a new app below. let's leave that for now our settings are now complete we have clearly understood how this functions let's exit the settings menu. we are in the home screen of our phone. let's compose this screen. the logo is appearing on the top right part of the screen the url of the website is not clear as it is getting mixed with other items let's change the placement of the url & the logo both the logo and the url are clearly visible and we can start the recording click on the red button to start the recording
the recording has started there is a red dot flashing at the bottom this means our recording is in progress whatever you do on the screen will be recorded you can see the impression of my finger whenever i touch the screen let's open an app click on the singaporeair app to open it to stop the recording click on the flashing red dot the recording has stopped.
if you slide from the top you can see the recording controls. you can resume the recording or stop it i have paused the recording for now. click on stop to stop the recording it notifies you that the recording is finished . you can delete , share or trim the recording click on just once to play the recording let me pause the recording our recording is complete and saved you can share this recording as well how would you view this recording ?
click on this icon it will open the output directory you can share the video from the output directory if you click on the icon with the 3 dots it gives 3 different options you can delete the video you can trim the video meaning you can edit/cut parts of it or you can convert it to a gif as well if you click on this icon you can share this video as well once you click on the icon all the various apps installed on your phone will open
the apps on your phone may be different you have different options such as whatsapp, facebook, gmail etc in the end you have you tube as well in most android phones you tube is pre-installed. your phone would also have you tube you can upload this video directly to you tube by clicking on the you tube icon it is extremely easy most of the features on this app are free. so you can easily use az screen recorder you can put your logo, your url or even your name in the screen recording you can customize the screen as per your preference and record your mobile screen.
